The Cottage

'far from the madding crowd.'

Tir nan Og Cottage welcomes up to two guests. Arriving at the cottage, private parking awaits you in our cottage driveway. And when you can pull yourselves away from the peacefulness and breathtaking views, no need to drive long distances to see the sights. You are less than 5 minutes to Lochbay Restaurant and Skye's oldest pub, the Stein Inn; art galleries, artisan crafts, sheepskins, medieval church; walking, beaches, boat trips, a diving center. Our own Iron Age ruin - 'Dun Hallin' is a gentle meander up the hill from Tir nan Og. And we are only a 15 minute car ride to Dunvegan Castle.

And for tidying up - a 'Henry' vacuum, cleaning materials, utensils and a blue recycling bin. Upon your departure our housekeeper takes all your recycling away.

Over the Little Minch & Outer Isles, the summer sun sets in the north!

In Our Garden

My husband Gordon and I designed the garden with the focus on its relationship to the sea. Large curved grass areas embrace broad stone walking paths - a 'faux shell beach' in the shape of the sea below. The contoured paths mirror Loch Bay's promontory to the south and Ardmore's promontory to the north, in the way that these landforms also embrace the sea.

Escalonia shelter the garden; a raised bed gives subtle colour and texture with its background, the stunning vista of the Outer Hebrides. Tir nan Og's garden is also framed by nature's garden - the wild grass and wildflowers of the surrounding moorland.

Seating areas are intentionally placed for moments alone or together. Intimate spaces with a French style table and chairs, a circular Victorian style bench. Wrought iron chairs and tables echo Gothic and Victorian design . . . and everywhere, breathtaking views of the sea - day or night!

View of Loch Bay, Waternish and the Outer Isles
